Designed by our expert local guides, this itinerary takes you to the heart of the dunes of M'hamid El Ghizlane for a human and authentic adventure, accessible to all nature lovers.
Day 1 (27/12/2026): Marrakesh – Tizi-n-Tichka – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Our adventure begins at 8:30 AM. We leave the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh to cross the High Atlas via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260 m altitude), offering spectacular views of the Berber villages clinging to the mountainside. We will visit the historic Kasbah of Telouet as well as the famous Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After a lunch featuring local flavors along the way, we reach Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Deep South, for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2 (28/12/2026): Ouarzazate – Drâa Valley – Zagora – M'hamid
After breakfast, our journey continues through the lunar landscapes of the Tizi-N-Tinififft pass (1710 m), before plunging into the sublime Drâa Valley. We drive along verdant palm groves and ancient fortified villages on the banks of Morocco's longest river. We arrive in M'hamid, where the road ends and the desert begins, just in time for lunch. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring the ancient Kasbah of M'hamid on foot. First dinner and overnight stay at our fixed desert camp at the gates of the dunes.
Day 3 (29/12/2026): Mhamid – Tomb of Sidi Naji
The great New Year's Eve 2026 trek begins. We meet our local team (camel drivers and cook) and our camels. We cross the Drâa riverbed to slowly venture deeper into the desert. After a refreshing lunch break in the shade of the tamarisk trees, we resume walking towards the sacred dunes of the marabout of Sidi Naji. We set up our nomadic camp just in time to admire a magnificent sunset. Enjoy a lively evening around the campfire and a magical night under a Berber tent or beneath the stars.
Day 4 (30/12/2026): Sidi Naji – Great Dunes of Zahra (The Howling Dunes)
Today we walk towards the impressive dunes of Zahra, renowned for being among the most majestic in the region. Along the way, we cross the ancient site of Bousnina, a buried village where the ground still hides small fragments of ancient pottery, bearing witness to the caravan history of the past. Reaching the crests of the sand waves, the panorama is breathtaking. At nightfall, after a delicious traditional dinner, we bring out the telescope for an unforgettable stargazing session under a sky entirely free of light pollution.
Day 5 (31/12/2026): The Grand New Year's Eve in the Desert (Aït Onir)
Wake up to the first light of the sun over the Sahara. Our caravan resumes its slow and meditative progression towards the dunes of Aït-Onir. After our midday meal sheltered by desert trees, we set up our final camp of the year. Time to celebrate: our team will prepare a traditional New Year's Eve feast (festive couscous or festive tagine, and nomadic bread baked directly in the sand). The evening lights up around a large bonfire, rhythmically accompanied by the songs and drumming of our camel driver friends to celebrate the arrival of 2027 together.
Day 6 (01/01/2027): Moroccan Desert – M'hamid
For the very first day of the year 2027, we begin our return journey through the infinite landscapes of the Drâa Valley. We walk at the peaceful pace of our camel caravan, savoring the unique silence of the Sahara one last time. The contrast between the stone plateaus (reg) and the sand dunes provides a soothing spectacle. In the late afternoon, we arrive back at the gates of the desert in M'hamid. Check-in at the fixed desert camp for a hot dinner and a well-deserved night of rest.
Day 7 (02/01/2027): M'hamid – Marrakesh
Early morning departure for our return to Marrakesh. We travel along a spectacular route that winds through the High Atlas mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass at 2260 meters altitude. Along the way, we will stop to visit an authentic local cooperative producing argan oil, a perfect opportunity to discover this traditional Moroccan craftsmanship. After a lunch break on the road, we reach Marrakesh in the late afternoon, marking the end of this unforgettable week in the desert.
