Detailed Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Foum Zguid - Moroccan Colorado Desert (Fossil Hunt) - Lake Iriki - Erg Chigaga Dunes

Our Saharan adventure kicks off with a morning departure from Foum Zguid by 4x4 to Erg Chigaga. Leaving the pavement behind, we head straight into the wild terrain of the Moroccan Colorado desert. Along the way, we will pull over at incredible panoramic viewpoints for photos and make a special stop to search for prehistoric fossils that have been embedded in this desert floor for millions of years.

After passing the beautiful Ajimiya Oasis, we cross the legendary dry Lake Iriki. This immense lake bed stretches roughly 25 kilometers wide, and since 1980, no water has run in this lake, creating an otherworldly horizon perfect for photography. Our off-road trek continues deep into the rolling wilderness until we reach the majestic Erg Chigaga dunes, where you will check into a comfortable desert camp located right in the middle of the dunes. After a fresh glass of traditional mint tea and a good rest, mount your camel for a guided camel ride to enjoy a beautiful sunset from the top of the dunes. The day ends with a delicious Moroccan dinner and a live musical evening around the campfire under a brilliant starry night.

Day 2: Erg Chigaga - Historic Paris-Dakar Rally Route - Nomad Visit - Foum Zguid

Awake early to catch an unforgettable desert sunrise painting the dunes in shades of gold and crimson. After a fresh breakfast at the camp, we begin our journey back by driving along the exhilarating, historic tracks of the old Paris-Dakar rally route. Speeding across the flat salt pans of Lake Iriki, we will make a meaningful stop to visit local desert nomads in their traditional camps, offering a firsthand look at their resilient way of life. Our 4x4 trek concludes as we safely arrive back in Foum Zguid at 11:30 AM, perfectly timed for your onward travels.
